Orissa is known for its exquisite handicrafts. Some of
them are- Silver Filigree: orissa's fine and delicate
silver filigree work is one of the best in the world.Cigar boxes,
jewellery, baskets and decorative trays are some of the popular sopping
items. Horn Work: Found mainly in Parlakhemundi and Cuttack, the
most popular piece is the long-legged stork. |

Pattachitra: This folk painting is an ancient and
unique craft. Pictures of animals, flowers, gods and demons are painted on
a specially prepared surface. Raghurajpur, 15 km from Puri , is famous for
this craft.
Metal ware: Various brass and bell metal ware items, from utensil
to decorative pieces are available all over Orissa.
Applique work: Made in Pipli near Bhubaneswar this involves
cutting of colorful fabrics in the shape of flowers, birds and animals;
stitching them artistically on colorful canopies, awnings and garden &
beach umbrellas. |
Stoneware: Popular stoneware articles include black
stone vowels and plates of Khiching, multi-coloured stone statuettes, and
delicate soapstone statuettes available in
Puri. TEXTILES
Skill and Cotton Handlooms: The charm of
skill and cotton handlooms fabrics and sarees of orissa is well known.
Sambalpur and Cuttack Sarees are unique. Fabrics for dresses, furnishings,
bedspreads and tablecloth are also available. Orissan paintings are also

CUISINE
The most popular is fish of both
salt water and fresh water. Cakes (pithas) of powered grams, like chakuli,
kakara, monda, arisa, etc. are also popular. Other delicacies include
carbs at Rambha, pomfn Puri, hilsa at Chandipur and lobsters at Paradeep.
Popular sweet meats are the brown rasogolla and chhenapodapihta, made of
cottage cheese. |
